It just occurred to me that there is a way to turn every hostel in the world into essentially a hotel: Sleep during the day. Then you have the whole room to yourself. I've been using hostels since '96, so it's pretty incredible that I only just realized this. I guess it has to do with my currently fucked up sleeping schedule. It's never been so fucked up, and certainly not during my heavy travelling years.
Hostels have many advantages over hotels, above all the lower price and instant social circle, and the main thing that keeps me from always preferring them is the sleeping. I don't mind sleeping with other people in the room, but there's almost always a snorer among them, and I can never fall asleep when there is snoring. I can fall asleep with almost any level of noise, if it's consistent enough, but snoring is such a disgusting sound that even if it's super-low volume, I still can't fall asleep with it.
Recently though Facebook served me some ads for some type of snoring-cancelling earplugs/headbuds, so Imma look into those. Until then, I will keep sleeping during the day, for the most part, because hotels in Stockholm are ridiculously expensive.
