People today are all terrible at distinguishing a leader from a media personality. This has led to numerous errors, but an obvious one was Cville in 2017 where a lack of leadership and coordination led to disaster for almost everyone involved. People looked to media personalities for leadership, and the personalities looked out for their own asses.
We can enjoy a personality. We can respect or admire a personality. We can watch a personality, and even be greatly interested in a personality. But no one should ever look to a personality for leadership and direction.
Case in point: Roosh was always a media personality. This doesn't mean he was inherently insincere, but one should always treat a media personality like a utility. Take what rhetoric, arguments, and ideas they have to offer. Buy their books. Read their blogs. Donate or buy their merch if you feel like it so they can keep getting the message out. Nothing wrong with any of this. But don't ever make the mistake of becoming personally loyal. And for crying out loud, don't ever become dependent on a media personality for your safety and security.
